From a military point of view, the account of Italian historian Lorenzo Valla (Three Books of the History of Ferdinand of Aragon, the official chronicler of Alfanso V of Aragon, The Great, and biographer of both father and son, is pivotal to understand such a historical landmark. Being written in Latin, this chronicle has gone unnoticed by most Medieval historians, who limit their studies to the chronicles written in the vernacular language, such as the works of Alvar Garcia de Santa Maria, Jeronimo Zurita, Perez de Guzman and Ortiz de Zuniga. However, the siege and seizure of the city, narrated in detail by Lorenzo Valla in Book I, are better documented than those of the Chronicles, especially in the field of war tactics.2009-01-01T00:00:00ZCelebración del triunfo militar de la Antigüedad clásica al Renacimiento

From the ancient Roman austerity, with symbols such as crowns of different sorts to the wish of perpetuating the most remarkable military heroic deeds, the pagan-Christian tradition was enriched by a series of memorial monuments of the military triumphs. Among them it is worth mentioning columns, carriages, arches and gates, which reach their zenith during the Renaissance with three unique figures: Alfonso V the Magnanimous, king of Naples and Sicily, Maximiliam I of Austria and Charles V. In the commemoration of their triumphs we can observe the survival of classical pagan elements with those introduced by Christianism and, above all, by the Renaissance in perfect symbiosis.2011-01-01T00:00:00ZEl “Hortus Philosophiae” como sistema de memoria local: El ejemplo del Congestorium

In the present work we aim to analyze the usage of the typical tree scheme of the Lullian tradition in the Congestorium artificiosae memoriae by Johannes Romberch (Venice, 1520). This Dominican author is the only treatise writer of his time who uses this diagram as a place for memory to order some content in the form of mnemonic images. In order to do that, we will observe the figure in which Romberch unfolds the scholastic hierarchy of knowledge, as well as its images and implications. Likewise, in the light of the Congestorium itself, we will point out the possible reasons that led its author to use such an unusual place in his discipline.2023-01-01T00:00:00ZUn siglo de historiografía hispano-lusa renacentista (1450-1550)

España y Portugal, so pretexto de propagar la fe, difunden su imperialismo por las mismas razones que lo hizo la Roma clásica: los antecedentes mitológicos y la necesidad de acabar con la barbarie.; Due to propagandistic reasons, as was common in Italy, the history of this period is mainly written in Latin; first, through the Italian Humanists that came to the court of the Catholic Monarches (Mártir de Anglería, Marineo Sículo) and of Don Juan I and Don Manuel (Cataldo Parisio Sículo); later on, by means of national humanists who enjoyed a great reputation in Europe (Nebrija, Góis, Resende, Jerónimo Osorio). Spain and Portugal, with the excuse of propagating the Catholic faith, spread their imperialism just as Rome had done before, that is, by resorting to mythological origins and the need to end up with barbarity.2011-01-01T00:00:00Z
