Memories of father and mother acceptance/rejection and its relationship with gender

Abstract

El objetivo de este estudio es caracterizar los recuerdos de los adultos jóvenes sobre la aceptación y el rechazo de la madre y el padre y analizar diferentes patrones de percepción de aceptación y rechazo de la madre y el padre para niñas y niños. La investigación se desarrolló en una muestra de 180 estudiantes universitarios portugueses y los instrumentos utilizados fueron Adult-PARQ Father (forma corta) (Rohner, 2004), Adult-PARQ Mother (forma corta) (Rohner, 2004) y un cuestionario sociodemográfico. Los resultados preliminares evidenciaron que el padre PARQ adulto y la madre PARQ adulto (forma abreviada) (Rohner, 2004) tienen características psicométricas muy buenas y que existe una diferencia estadísticamente significativa entre las percepciones de los niños y las niñas de la aceptación de la madre y el padre y la hostilidad-agresión .

The aim of this study is to characterize young adults’ memories of mother and father acceptance and rejection and to analyse different patterns of mother and father perception of acceptance and rejection for girls and boys. The research was developed in a sample of 180 Portuguese university students and the instruments used were the Adult-PARQ Father (short form) (Rohner, 2004), the Adult-PARQ Mother (short form) (Rohner, 2004) and a sociodemographic questionnaire. The preliminary results evidenced that Adult-PARQ Father and Adult-PARQ Mother (short form) (Rohner, 2004) have very good psychometric characteristics and that there is a statistically significant difference between boys and girls perceptions of mother and father acceptation and hostility-aggression.
