Abstract

Tras el estudio científico de la cuestión no parece haber duda de la pervivencia de los títulos imperiales en la actualidad. No existe duda de la continuidad en el tiempo de los títulos, precisando que el 25 de febrero de 1803, la Dieta Imperial reunida en Ratisbona suprime solamente tres Príncipes Electores, no afectando en modo alguno estos acuerdos restrictivos los títulos, dignidades y potestades del resto de la nobleza titulada hereditaria. El 6 de agosto de 1806 Su Majestad el Emperador Francisco II con su renuncia, después de haber constituido el Imperio Hereditario Austriaco en 1804, pone fin a la presencia del Emperador en el Imperio, pero no al Imperio en sí mismo y concretamente a su soberanía, residenciada, además de en el Emperador - dignidad vacante pero no extinta - en Su Santidad el Papa. Podría pensarse que son dignidades extintas, pero no lo son.
