The objective of this work is to present research cases focused on the tourism phenomenon. These cases use a qualitative perspective of analysis and make use of focus groups, either in part or in the whole design of the research. This methodological design, based on the "focus groups", has three implications for the methodology of the study of tourism phenomena Firstly, the approach used in these studies goes beyond the reductionism of positivist methods (exclusively quantitative), thus incorporating a holistic vision of the tourism problem. Second, the use of this qualitative research tool incorporates the results of the interaction between the researcher and the research subjects. Consequently, the interaction resulting from the stakeholders' assessment of this social phenomenon influences changes in the perception of tourism-related phenomena. Thirdly, it is advisable to adopt an eclectic methodological position in tourism studies, which integrates the qualitative and the quantitative. This paper has two clearly differentiated parts. Firstly, an introduction relating to the theoretical and practical considerations, derived from the option for the qualitative research perspective. Second, a presentation of specific cases of tourism research to illustrate the contributions that this perspective makes to the research process applied to different areas of tourism.
