Taking as a starting point common phrases and proverbs such as “caress words” and “insult words” from the animal lexicon in French and Spanish, this article analyses to what extent both languages —inheritors of the Latin language and cul¬ture— have common shared expressions and places and to what extent they manifest particular characteristics which would be a reflection of their historic, socioeconomic and literary past… and even their collective unconscious with their frustrations, fears and complexes … In spite of the numerous coincidences, it is confirmed that each language echoes its own peculiar way of viewing, organizing and thinking about the world.
