In this paper we analyze the development of First Carlist War (1833-1840) in the natural region of Vegas Altas of the Guadiana, a conflict which directly affected this geographical area, since many carlist commands acted in the place. On the other hand, we will analyzed the reason why don Carlos relied on a series of sympathies and/or social supports that were severely repressed by the Isabeline institutions, which played a crucial role in tipping the scale in favour of Isabel II. The most violent civil war in the XIX century, apart from substantially altering the flow of daily life in the region, also brought consequences for its economy and citizens.
