La preceptiva historiográfica renacentista y la retórica de los discursos: antología de textos

Abstract

El debate sobre el uso de los historiadores de discursos en su narrativa ocupan a numerosos académicos e historiógrafos durante la Edad Moderna en Europa. Muchos de ellos vieron la inclusión de discursos como señal de grandeza hasta el punto de unir los discursos históricos a la retórica y oratoria. Por otra parte, había otros que desconfiaban de la veracidad de los mismos. En esta antología, incluyo capítulos de pasajes de al menos treinta “artes historicae” tratados en el tema.Se han añadido breves comentarios en los textos. Los textos van desde el tardío Cinquecento a las primeras oleadas de la Ilustración

The debate over historians’ use of speeches in their narratives engaged numerous scholars and historiographers during the Early Modern period all across Europe. Some of them viewed the inclusion of speeches as a sign of the greatness of history insomuch as the speeches linked historical writing to oratory and rhetoric. On the other hand, there were others who mistrusted the speeches for they revealed how apart history and truth were. In this anthology I include chapters or passages of almost thirty “artes historicae” dealing with the subject. Brief commentaries on the texts are added. Texts range from the late Cinquecento to the first waves of the Enlightenment
