La proyección de la Universidad de Salamanca en Hispanoamérica: modelo institucional y pedagógico de las universidades hispanoamericanas

Abstract

La fundación de universidades fue la máxima realización de la obra educativa de España en América, caso único en la historia de la cultura. El fenómeno universitario hispanoamericano comenzó, y siguió, presuroso, cuando aún no se había acabado la acción de conquista. El año de 1538 representa el alba de la historia de las universidades hispanoamericanas, fecha en que se pone la primera piedra de la Institución en Santo Domingo, Isla Española, el primer escenario del trasplante cultural de España a Indias, o mejor, de la simbiosis cultural de España y América. Y este empeño cultural y fundacional de universidades de España en América no acaba hasta 1812, con la última fundada por el gobierno español en Nicaragua, mediante las Cortes de Cádiz. España estableció unas treinta universidades en Indias durante la época de su dominación, generalmente contando con la iniciativa y colaboración de la Iglesia. Esta obra y aportación son muy significativas y hay que subrayarlas con objetividad. En el presente trabajo se intenta establecer, de manera somera, pero precisa, la proyección de la Universidad de Salamanca en Hispanoamérica a través de la fundación de las primeras universidades americanas.

The foundation of universities was the ultimate realization of the educational work of Spain in America, unique in the history of culture. The Hispanic college phenomenon began, and continued, hurriedly, when no action was over conquest. The year of 1538 represents the dawn of the history of Latin American universities, when you put the first stone of the institution in Santo Domingo, Spanish Island, the first stage of cultural transplantation of Spain to the Indies, or rather of cultural symbiosis of Spain and America. And this cultural endeavor founding universities of Spain in America does not end until 1812, with the latter founded by the Spanish government in Nicaragua, by the Cortes of Cadiz. Spain established some thirty universities in India during the period of their rule, generally relying on the initiative and support of the Church. This work and contributions are very significant and we must underline them objectively. In this paper tries to establish so brief, but accurate, the projection of the University of Salamanca in Latin America through the founding of the first American universities.
