Etimología, significado y referente de los arabismos "Rabel" y "Rebeb" (Contribución al estudio del léxico musical)

Abstract

El objetivo de este artículo es determinar, desde un punto de vista diacrónico, el origen etimológico, significado y referente de dos términos que se derivan de la misma raíz árabe. En el plano etimológico, etapas fonéticas intermedias ajustan el romance a la estructura; y este hecho explica, en gran medida, las características morfológicas registradas en las distintas grafías españolas (medieval y moderna). Esta encuesta léxica y semántica se basa en documentos literarios; y se examina también la relación entre los dos términos con el fin de especificar su filiación organográfica y afinidad, ya que ambos términos denotan dos instrumentos musicales de origen árabe.

The aim of this article is to determine, from a diachronic point of view, the etymological origin, meaning and referent of two terms that arise from the same Arabic root. On the etymological level, intermediate phonetic stages for the adjustment to romance structure are detailed, and this fact explains, to a great extent, the morphological characteristics registered in the various Spanish spellings (medieval and modern). This lexical and semantic survey is based on literary documents, and it further examines the relationship between the two terms in order to specify both their organographic filiation and affinity, since both terms denote two musical instruments of Arabic origin.
