Utopía y metafísica del tiempo en «Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius» de Jorge Luis Borges

Abstract

El artículo estudia la relación del cuento «Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius» de Jorge Luis Borges con la tradición occidental de textos utópicos. Se hace hincapié en la configuración del tiempo narrado, que se analiza a través de la filosofía de Agustín de Hipona y de Paul Ricoeur. El estudio de las teorías metafísicas del tiempo de Tlön y cómo este es percibido y experimentado por sus habitantes permite considerar el mundo imaginario de Borges como una metáfora viva del nuestro.

This article examines Borges’ short story «Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius» and compares it with several Utopian texts within the Western tradition. It focuses on the configuration of the narrative time in the imaginary world of Tlön, following Augustine of Hippo’s and Paul Ricoeur’s philosophies. The analysis of the metaphysical theories of time and how Tlönians perceive and experience it allows us to talk about Tlön as a living metaphor of our world.
