Deformidades craneales: etiología y consecuencias

Abstract

Desde que en los comienzos del siglo XXI se trató de prevenir la muerte súbita de los lactantes, una de las medidas que se tomaron fue el descanso del niño en decúbito supino, y en consecuencia a esta medida, aumentaron las deformidades craneales, estando presentes cada vez en un mayor número de neonatos. Otros autores atribuyen su origen a una mala posición del feto o al trabajo de la madre u otras causas. Por otra parte, las consecuencias de esas deformidades craneales no quedan nada establecidas, ya que para unos autores existe algún tipo de retraso en el desarrollo psicomotor, y para otros no. Por lo que las medidas terapéuticas son diferentes según el enfoque del especialista, combinando el casco, la fisioterapia o en algunos casos el propio desarrollo del niño. En este artículo hemos pretendido aclarar un poco el camino para discernir tanto las causas como las consecuencias de las deformidades craneales.

Since in the beginning of the 21st century it came to prevent sudden infant death, one of the measures taken was the adoption of supine sleeping recommendations to prevent sudden infant death syndrome, and consequently to this measure, increased cranial deformities, each time in a larger number of infants still present. Other authors attribute its origin to a bad position of the fetus or the work of the mother or other causes. On the other hand, the consequences of these cranial deformities are not nothing established, for a few authors there is some sort of delay in psychomotor development, and for others not. Therapeutic measures are different according to the approach of the specialist, combining the helmet, physical therapy or in some cases the child’s own development. In this article we have tried to clarify a bit the way to discern both the causes and consequences of cranial deformities.
