La guerra civil en el partido judicial de Castuera (1936-1939)

Abstract

La investigación pretende analizar la evolución y consecuencias de la Guerra Civil en la comarca histórica de La Serena, especialmente en el Partido Judicial de Castuera. Se parte de una introducción donde se subrayará el activismo político y sindical durante la República, para continuar con las consecuencias que tuvo para este territorio el golpe de Estado que la convirtió en el centro de la Extremadura republicana durante la Guerra. Se analiza la violencia política contra los derechistas y falangistas, fijando los factores que la desencadenaron, su tipología y el perfil de las víctimas. Una parte central de la investigación se focaliza en el estudio de la represión franquista que se articuló sobre el mismo territorio una vez que fue ocupado por las tropas rebeldes. Se ha establecido un modelo de ocupación del territorio y de control social basado en una secuenciación de la violencia y de la “inversión en terror”. Para ello se describen los resortes represivos que se pusieron en marcha tras la victoria del bando rebelde y que consiguieron eliminar completamente el republicanismo y el movimiento obrero, ejemplarizado en el castigo a sus dirigentes.

The research aims to analyse the evolution and consequences of the Civil War in the historical region of La Serena, especially in the Judicial District of Castuera. It starts with an introduction highlighting the political and trade union activism during the Republic, and continues with the consequences of the coup d'état which made this area the centre of Republican Extremadura during the war. The political violence against right-wingers and Falangists is analysed, establishing the factors that triggered it, its typology and the profile of the victims. A central part of the research focuses on the study of the Francoist repression that took place in the same territory once it was occupied by the rebel troops. A model of territorial occupation and social control has been established based on a sequencing of violence and "investment in terror". To this end, we describe the repressive mechanisms that were set in motion after the victory of the rebel side and which managed to completely eliminate republicanism and the workers' movement, exemplified by the punishment of its leaders.
