Los retablos de la capilla de Santa Catalina en el Real Monasterio de Guadalupe

Abstract

En la capilla de Santa Catalina se encuentran los retablos y altares dedicados a Santa Paula, viuda, y a la misma Santa Catalina, virgen y mártir, que serán objeto de este estudio. Las esculturas de ambas santas son atribuidas al escultor romanista Giraldo de Merlo, autor también de las esculturas del retablo mayor del Monasterio ya que hay una misma concepción plástica en las esculturas de la capilla y en las representaciones escultóricas del citado retablo mayor.

In the chapel of Santa Catalina there are the altarpieces and altars dedicated to Santa Paula, widow, and to Santa Catalina herself, virgin and martyr, which will be the object of this study. The sculptures of both saints are attributed to the Romanist sculptor Giraldo de Merlo, also the author of the sculptures on the Monastery's main altarpiece, since there is the same plastic conception in the sculptures in the chapel and in the sculptural representations of said main altarpiece.
