Variantes textuales en una cita homérica de Licurgo: "Ilíada" XV 494-499 en "Contra Leócrates" 103

Abstract

El texto de algunas citas homéricas difiere con frecuencia del de nuestros manuscritos. En relación con esto, se pueden aportar dos explicaciones: a) los autores antiguos cometían errores porque citaban el texto de memoria, y b) debido a las actuaciones de los rapsodas el texto homérico tenía más de una lectura en el periodo prealexandrino, por lo que los autores podían recurrir a diferentes fuentes. En "Contra Leócrates" 103, Licurgo cita Il. XV 494-499 con tres (quizá cuatro) variantes. Los eruditos se inclinan por dar más credibilidad a la primera explicación. Sin embargo, este artículo sostiene la opinión, como más cercana a la realidad, que Licurgo citó su propia Ilíada, cuyo texto diferiría de otras que circulaban en aquella época.

The text of some Homeric quotations frequently differs from that of our manuscripts. Two explanations may be brought forward in connection to this: a) the ancient authors made mistakes because they quoted the text from memory, and b) due to the performances of the rhapsodes. the Homeric text had more than one reading in the prealexandrine period, so that the authors could turn to different sources. In "Against Leocrates" 103, Licurgus quotes II. XV 494-499 with three (perhaps four) variants. The scholars are inclined to lend more credibility to the first explanation. Nevertheless, this article holds the view, as closer to reality, that Lycurgus quoted his own Iliad, whose text would differ from others that were in circulation at that time.
