Características y motivación del alumnado que asiste a la Universidad de la Experiencia en la Provincia de Almería

Abstract

El constatado envejecimiento de la población ha llevado a búsqueda de alternativas para la consecución de un envejecimiento activo que retrase o delimite la dependencia asociada a la vejez. De este modo, surge la Universidad de la Experiencia, denominada en la Provincia de Almería “Mayores en la Universidad: Ciencia y Experiencia”. En el presente estudio se trata de delimitar las características sociodemográficas y la motivación que ha llevado a estas personas a cursar este tipo de enseñanzas. Así podemos observar como la mayoría de los mayores que acuden a este programa: son mujeres, tienen entre 61 y 70 años, están casados/as, poseen estudios secundarios o superiores, y han desarrollado su vida laboral como empleado, oficinista o funcionario/a. Todos ellos apuntan como motivaciones principales para acceder y permanecer la información recibida, conocer a alguien que asistía, pasar el tiempo libre, ser una superación para sí mismo, ser una forma de ampliar conocimientos, sentirse bien consigo mismo y ayudarles a organizar su vida; mientras que no resaltan aspectos como que sea un medio para huir de la soledad, que aporte prestigio o que ayude a no pensar en el paso del tiempo.

The observed ageing of the population has led to the search for alternatives to achieve active ageing that delays or delimits the dependence associated with old age. In this way, the University of Experience emerges, called in the Province of Almeria “Majors in the University: Science and Experience”. In the present study we try to delimit the sociodemographic characteristics and the motivation that has led these people to study this type of education. Thus we can observe how most of the elderly who attend this program: are women, are between 61 and 70 years old, are married, have secondary or higher education, and have developed their working life as an employee, clerk or official. All of them point out as main motivations to access and remain the information received, to know someone who attended, to spend free time, to be an improvement for oneself, to be a way to expand knowledge, feel good about oneself and help them organize their lives; while they do not highlight aspects such as that it is a means to escape from loneliness, that it provides prestige or that it helps not to think about the passage of time.
