Abstract

A los humanistas de los siglos XV y XVI se les reconoce haber exhumado los textos de los autores antiguos y haber propiciado su difusión, aprovechando el auge de las universidades y de las imprentas. También a ellos les debemos una incipiente conciencia crítica respecto al problema del mejor establecimiento de los textos. Sin embargo, Ia asimilación del pensamiento antiguo por Ia sociedad renacentista no hubiera sido posible sin Ia aplicación de mecanismos explanatorios e interpretativos que facilitaran Ia lectura y Ia comprensión de los textos griegos y latinos.

The humanists of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries are credited with having exhumed the texts of the ancient authors and having encouraged their dissemination, taking advantage of the rise of universities and printing presses. It is also to them that we owe an incipient critical awareness of the problem of how best to set down texts. However, the assimilation of ancient thought by Renaissance society would not have been possible without the application of explanatory and interpretative mechanisms to facilitate the reading and understanding of Greek and Latin texts.
