La Historia de la Medicina en la Universidad de Extremadura

Abstract

La de Historia de la Medicina en el momento actual se encuentra dentro del Área de Biblioteconomía y Documentación y esta a su vez pertenece al Departamento de Informática. Es una asignatura troncal dentro del plan de estudios de la Facultad de Medicina que se imparte en el curso de primero, desde hace cinco años. Esto ha supuesto un cambio en la orientación de los contenidos debido a que como es lógico los alumnos de primero aún no tienen una formación clínica y también poseen una visión distinta, a mi entender, pues los alumnos se encuentran menos presionados y obsesionados por el examen de Médicos Internos Residentes, lo que les permite acceder a otros conocimientos médicos con más tranquilidad. El número de créditos que tenemos es el mínimo, el que marca la Ley, es decir, 45 horas. No quiero realizar un recorrido desde que se inició la Historia de la Medicina hasta hoy, pienso que es más prudente mirar el momento presente y futuro, si bien estos son y serán una consecuencia de los acontecimientos pasados. El tiempo da una distancia que permite que se decanten las cosas, que los hechos puedan ser vistos bajo más perspectivas. Aunque quiera separar la evolución de la asignatura y mi propia biografía, es difícil. Esto no sólo me ha ocurrido a mí sino que también le ocurre a otros profesores que han puesto en marcha y que además están solos impartiendo docencia.

The History of Medicine is currently located within the Library and Documentation Area and this in turn belongs to the Department of Informatics. It is a core subject within the Faculty of Medicine curriculum that has been taught in the first year course for five years. This has meant a change in the orientation of the content because, logically, first-year students do not yet have clinical training and they also have a different vision, in my opinion, since students are less pressured and obsessed by the exam. of Resident Internal Physicians, which allows them to access other medical knowledge with more peace of mind. The number of credits we have is the minimum, which is established by Law, that is, 45 hours. I do not want to take a tour from the beginning of the History of Medicine to today, I think it is more prudent to look at the present and future moment, although these are and will be a consequence of past events. Time gives a distance that allows things to be decided, so that facts can be seen from more perspectives. Although I want to separate the evolution of the subject and my own biography, it is difficult. This has not only happened to me but also happens to other teachers who have started up and who are also teaching alone.
