Abstract

Felipe II es un excelente objeto historiográfico. Cuantos historiadores y ensayistas se han aproximado a su persona o a su contexto han relatado su particular visión del mundo. La investigación histórica más vulgarizada en España ha sido la decimonónica y de las primeras décadas del siglo XX, que aparece muy debilitada en nuestros días, no tanto por la vejez de las técnicas empleadas como por la subordinación de sus autores a una polemización sobre sus propios valores que afectaba al resultado de sus estudios.

Philip II of Spain is an excellent historiographical object. The historians and essayists that have approximated to his person or context have told us about his particular world vision. The most popular historical research in Spain has been realized during the nineteenth century and the early decades of the twentieth century. This one seems to be very weakened in our days, not by the age of the techniques employed, but the subordination of their authors to a polemizacion on their own values that affected the outcome of their studies.
