¿Fonema o rasgo pertinente?

Abstract

Interesa insistir en hechos tan conocidos como la relación existente entre el sonido y el fonema, aunque no por ello se pierda de vista que la abstracción (el fonema) es posible sólo por la evidencia de la sustancia concreta (el sonido). El fonema es un elemento fundamental para la fonología, lo cual no ponemos en duda; ahora bien, en ocasiones, los lingüistas se preguntan si es el fonema o bien el rasgo pertinente (relevante, válido o distintivo) el elemento mínimo de semejante ciencia.

We are interested in insisting on facts as the relationship between the sound and the phoneme, although the abstraction (the phoneme) is possible only by evidence of the particular substance (the sound). The phoneme is an essential element for the phonology, which we do not question; however, on occasions, the linguists are wondering if it is the phoneme or the relevant feature the minimum element of this science.
