Español y portugués en contacto. Las actitudes lingüísticas en zona fronteriza: Extremadura y el Alentejo

Abstract

Este trabajo explora las actitudes lingüísticas de los extremeños hacia el idioma portugués. Se analizan más de 450 encuestas realizadas a individuos de las comunidades de Cáceres y de Badajoz sobre actitudes afectivas, cognitivas y conductuales. El cuestionario se reparte de forma on-line y con la ayuda de un software personalizado. El primer trabajo de campo se desarrolló bajo un cuestionario de entrevistas en las localidades de Elvas y Valencia de Alcántara, con el objetivo de comparar las actitudes de ambos países y extraer el cuestionario definitivo que sería repartido de forma on-line al sector de la población extremeña. En el segundo trabajo de campo se crearon los cuestionarios para ser distribuidos en esta región; el presente trabajo muestra los resultados más relevantes. Por un lado, hemos constatado que, a pesar de la situación geográfica, los entrevistados sienten un profundo respeto por la lengua del otro lo cual habla en favor de una conciencia lingüística positiva. Por otro lado, se demuestra la existencia de un creciente interés por la lengua portuguesa en territorio extremeño, en el cual, después del inglés, todavía se prefiere estudiar portugués debido a las emergentes relaciones hispano-lusas.

This paper explores the linguistic attitudes of Extremadurans to the Portuguese. More than 450 surveys on affective, cognitive and behavioral attitudes were completed by people in the communities of Cáceres and Badajoz. The questionnaire was distributed and conducted on-line with the help of custom software. The initial field work was developed by using a questionnaire and interviews in the towns of Elvas and Valencia de Alcántara, in order to compare the attitudes of both countries and take results of these interviews and develop the final questionnaire for our target population which was the second part of the fieldwork. This paper aims to present the most relevant results from these surveys. In the analysis of the results, we found that, despite the geographical location, the respondents feel a deep respect for the other's language which speaks in favor of a positive linguistic awareness. More importantly, it proves the existence of a growing interest in Extremadura towards learning the Portuguese language, in which, after English, the study of Portuguese is preferred due to emerging Spanish and Portuguese relations.
