Structures and coatings of zirconia (ZrO₂) and itria are frequently used in many technological applications. Common examples are cutting tools, thermal barrier coatings, combustion chambers, etc. In these and other applications, the materials work under extreme conditions (high contact stresses, chemical agents, etc.) which can induce catastrophic failure of the system. The general objective of the project is to fabricate and characterize coatings based on ZrO₂-Y2O₃ systems using the appropriate combination of the Sol-gel method and the technique of coating by electrodeposition. In particular, we studied the homogeneity and uniformity of the coating from an electrical method developed by us and is contrast the effectiveness of it through different tests: surface roughness, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, nanoindentation, design of experiment etc. These techniques made it possible to check the validity of the electric method and the homogeneity and uniformity of the coating. As the influence of the coating surface termination application were conducted of corrosion to evaluate their behavior.
