Evaluación de la cobertura de la biodiversidad en Extremadura mediante las Redes de Reservas Naturales

Abstract

La gestión de la Red de Áreas Protegidas en Extremadura (RAPEX) está cerca de ser finalizada después de varios procesos que han sido llevados a cabo durante décadas. Criterios de características, motivación y diseño han ido cambiando según la escala regional, nacional y europea en este período de tiempo. Europa contiene la más amplia gama de áreas protegidas que superponen a otras áreas protegidas tanto a nivel regional como nacional. Esta heterogeneidad dentro de las iniciativas de gestión y los resultados de carácter geográficos, cuestiona la eficiencia de la red de áreas protegidas, particularmente, en relación con la biodiversidad de Extremadura, siendo uno de los lugares con mayor biodiversidad en Europa y objetivos más relevantes para proteger RAPEX. La presente Tesis Doctoral, propone la investigación sobre si RAPEX protege la gran variedad de biodiversidad presente en Extremadura, cumpliendo así los objetivos por las que RAPEX fue creada. Esto incluye la revisión de la biodiversidad presente en Extremadura utilizando los datos más actuales, en contraposición de la lista parcial que fueron utilizadas como iniciativas para delimitar y diseñar las diversas áreas actuales. Una evaluación completa y exhaustiva no había sido realizada hasta ahora, cuando es el momento más apropiado para completar este estudio teniendo en cuenta la madurez de la Red de Áreas Protegidas en Extremadura (RAPEX).

The management of the Protected Areas Network (PAN) in Extremadura is close to completion after various processes taking decades. Character, motivation and design criteria have been changing on regional, national and European scale in this period of time. Europe contains the widest range of areas of which many overlap both regionally and nationally. This heterogeneity within the management initiatives and geographic results, questions the efficiency of the net particularly relating to Extremadura's biodiversity, being one of the most biodiverse ranges in Europe and more relevant aims to protect the Protected Areas Network (PAN) in Extremadura. The proposed Thesis will research into whether the PAN covers Extremadura's vast range of biodiversity, thus enabling for protection of these areas under the PAN in Extremadura. This will include reviewing the biodiversity within Extremadura using the most current data, in contraposition of the exclusive partial list of the different initiatives that developed the diverse areas. The most important assessments were not completed until recently, when is the most appropriate time to complete this study considering the maturity of the Protected Areas Network (PAN) in Extremadura.
