Construcción y evolución temporal de la muralla de Ávila: últimas aportaciones historiográficas

Abstract

La muralla de Ávila, como obra clave de la arquitectura militar cristiana en la Península Ibérica, ha suscitado el interés de los historiadores del arte durante siglos. A pesar de ello, existen todavía demasiadas ideas erróneas sobre su origen, proceso constructivo y evolución temporal, debido a la supervivencia de leyendas y mitos de escasa o nula base histórica. Las últimas investigaciones han puesto de manifiesto en este sentido nuevas dataciones cronológicas y explicaciones en cuanto a sus constructores y las influencias que recibieron, novedades que pretendemos exponer en este trabajo.

The wall of Avila is one of the most important examples of Christian military architecture in the Iberian Peninsula, and for that reason it has attracted the attention of many art historians for centuries. However, still today there are many misconceptions regarding its origin, construction process and evolution, which is mainly due to many surviving legends and myths with little or no historical base. Recent research has revealed new chronological data and explanations about its builders and influences. These investigations are going to be put forward in this paper.
