Nuevos datos sobre escultores y pintores extremeños del siglo XVI

Abstract

En este artículo ampliamos las noticias conocidas sobre pintores y escultores de Badajoz en la segunda mitad del siglo XVI con aportaciones inéditas que perfilan sus biografías e incrementan el catálogo de sus obras. Nuestra exposición se ocupa de nueve escultores y trece pintores, todos ellos con prestigio reconocido en su tiempo y en su ambiente, si bien la fama de algunos, como la de Luis de Morales, transciende su época y supera con creces los límites restrictivos de la historiografía regional.

In this article we extend the news about painters and sculptors of Badajoz in the second half of XVI century with new contributions that outline their biographies and increase the catalogues of their works. Our essay is about nine sculptors and thirteen painters, all of whom have a recognized prestige in its time, although the fame of some of them, like the one of Luis de Morales’, extends his age and fully surpasses the restrictive limits of regional historiography.
