El órgano grande de la Catedral de Plasencia. Nuevas aportaciones para su historia

Abstract

El presente trabajo tiene por objeto de estudio el órgano de la Catedral de Plasencia, a tenor de la nueva documentación localizada acerca de los maestros de escultura que se encargaron de realizar las tallas que decoran la caja: los badajoceños Miguel Sánchez Taramas y Cristóbal Jiménez Morgado. Asimismo, en el trabajo se aborda una biografía del importante maestro organero, procedente de Valladolid, fray Domingo de Aguirre, responsable de la obra.

This article studies the organ of Plasencia Cathedral in the light of new documents found about Miguel Sánchez Taramas and Cristóbal Jiménez Morgado, sculptors from Badajoz, who worked on the decoration of the organ-screen. These new documents contribute to outline the artists biographies and increase our knowledge of the catalogue of their works. This article also presents a brief biography of Domingo de Aguirre, from Valladolid, who was one of the most important master organ-builders in the 17th-century.
