Communication techniques adopted for didactis, involve the integration of new technologies that contribute in realizing a new didactic model. The aim of the present work is to investigate the students digital competence in three types of high school in Messina. Testing has been carried out within three months on a sample of 387 students aged between 14 and 18, attending the two and three-year period. By quantitative methods and by the delivery of IDCA test (Instant Digital Competence Assessment), data has been collected and analyzed with the aid of Exel and SPSS programs. The tests are divided into three fields: technological, cognitive and ethical.Presuming that the students had a basic Knowledge of computer and that the tests could be complied, the limit of expectation of supposed right answers is 65%. Students, analyzing the scores, reach an average of 62%, therefore they don’t seem to be competent. The best results are in the three-year period compared with the two-years: between the variable age range (two-year period 14-15, three-year period 16-18) and the achievements, there is a significant association (p<0,001). The variables of belonging to that particular institute and the results are significantly associated (p<0,001). In conclusion, being the only ones overcoming the limit, the lyceum students can be defined competent, in the professional institute the results don’t seem to demonstrate that technology improves studying methods, in the technical school, the evolution of the three-year period students indicate that it is the right path to get positive results.es_ES
