El amanecer de la novela gótica irlandesa

Abstract

En los últimos años, la crítica ha estudiado la existencia de un gótico irlandés. Dentro del espacio irlandés, veremos cómo la sociedad anglicana influenció el desarrollo del gótico irlandés. Curiosamente, la sociedad anglo-irlandesa estuvo atrapada entre los elementos irlandeses y la sociedad inglesa. Posteriormente, cuestiones importantes como la «paranoia», el temor al Otro y la protección del Yo emergieron bajo una nueva empresa. De esta forma, el paisaje irlandés, el folclore irlandés o las luchas entre protestantes y católicos son elementos que podemos localizar dentro de la novela gótica irlandesa.

In recent years literary criticism has studied the existence of an Irish Gothic. Within the Irish space, we will see how the Anglican society influenced the development of the Irish Gothic. Interestingly, the Anglo-Irish society was caught between the native Irish elements and the English society, subsequently important issues such as «paranoia», the fear to the Other and the protection of the Self emerged under a new manufacture. In this way, the Irish landscape, the Irish folklore, or the struggles between Protestants and Catholics are elements located within the Irish Gothic novel.
