Relaciones de la Orden de San Juan con las otras órdenes militares en Castilla y León (siglos XII Y XIII)

Abstract

La Orden Militar de San Juan u Orden del Hospital mantuvo estrechas relaciones con las otras Órdenes Militares presentes en Castilla durante los siglos XII Y XIII. En primer lugar, se observa que los hospitalarios castellanos formaron parte integrante del colectivo de las Órdenes Militares del reino. Sostuvieron posturas comunes en algunas cuestiones políticas y firmaron acuerdos de colaboración mutua. Además, la Orden de San Juan entabló relaciones bilaterales con cada una de dichas Órdenes en Castilla. Los vínculos más frecuentes fueron los desarrollados con la Orden de Santiago, pero en menor medida también hubo contactos con las Órdenes de Calatrava, Alcántara y Temple. En ese nivel bilateral, alternan las buenas relaciones con los pleitos y conflictos. En general, se puede decir que los hospitalarios castellanos mantuvieron vínculos bastante positivos con las demás Órdenes hasta principios del siglo XIV.

The Military Order of Saint John or Order of the Hospital supported narrow relations with other Military Orders present in Castile during the Twelfth and Thirteenth Centuries. First, is observed that the Castilian Hospitallers formed a part member of the group of the Military Orders of the kingdom. They supported common positions in some political questions and signed agreements of mutual collaboration. In addition, the Order of Saint John began bilateral relations with each of the above mentioned Orders in Castile. The most frequent links were the developed ones with the Order of Santiago, but in minor measure also there were contacts with the Orders of Calatrava, Alcantara and Temple. In this bilateral level, they alternate the good relations with the lawsuits and conflicts. In general, it is possible to say that the Castilian Hospitallers supported positive enough links with other Orders until beginning of the Fourteenth Century.
