This study analyses the level of acquisition of contents in Biology and Geology as well as their attainment of the scientific competence in the students of 1st and 3rd year of compulsory secondary education in a Secondary school in Extremadura. In addition, it explores if their academic results in the subjects of Biology and Geology are affected in some way by the linguistic subjects. Therefore, it analyses if there are differences between the results of the students who follow an ordinary schooling and the students enrolled in the CLIL programme (bilingual section), identifying if there is any type of correlation between the academic results in Biology and Geology, Spanish Language and Literature (L1) and English as a Foreign Language (L2). The tools used to obtain the data were, on the one hand, the final marks of the students in the scientific competence test carried out at the end of the course, which measures the students’ attainment of the evaluable learning standards, and, on the other, the final mark in Biology and Geology, as a way to measure the acquisition of the contents. After analysing the data, it is observed that there are significant differences in the academic results obtained in Biology and Geology and in the acquisition of scientific competence, being higher in CLIL than in non-CLIL students. In addition, there is a strong correlation between these results and those obtained in linguistic disciplines, being also more positive in CLIL students.
