La portada norte de San Pedro de Vitoria y su contexto litúrgico

Abstract

En este artículo se describe la portada norte de la iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol de Vitoria, donde se aprecia un programa veterotestamentario con escenas del Génesis. Constituye un "unicum" en el Gótico en Álava y responde a ciertas connotaciones litúrgicas. El conjunto norte destaca especialmente por su programa iconográfico. El programa figurativo de la portada se limita a las enjutas de los dobles arcos inferiores, donde se cobijan algunas escenas del Génesis como la Creación, el Pecado Original, la vida de Caín y el Diluvio.

This article describes the north portal of the church of St. Peter the Apostle in Vitoria, where an Old Testament programme with scenes from the Genesis can be seen. It constitutes a "unicum" in the Gothic in Álava and responds to certain liturgical connotations. The northern group stands out especially for its iconographic programme. The figurative program me of the portal is limited to the spandrels of the lower double arches where some Genesis scenes are housed, as the Creation, the Original Sin, the life of Cain and the Universal Deluge.
