La lengua española en las columnas de F. Umbral: análisis lingüístico del discurso poético-periodístico

Abstract

El acercamiento a las columnas umbralianas se ha realizado fundamentalmente desde la perspectiva de la literatura y del periodismo, y, a pesar de la enorme riqueza y singularidad de estos escritos en el plano estrictamente lingüístico, advertimos que ha sido muy escasa la atención que se le ha prestado. En este artículo se recogen por niveles las características más relevantes de la escritura umbraliana en un “corpus” de columnas correspondientes a su última época. Entre los rasgos más destacados del estudio extraigo la creación neológica, basada en bases léxicas españolas, que busca la expresividad, la sorpresa; el gusto por la frase larga y compleja; la profusa adjetivación valorativa, connotativa y subjetiva, reflejo de la poesía barroca y manierista de un Quevedo; el gusto por el ritmo y la rima que convierten sus escritos en auténtica prosa poética, etcétera.

The study of the Umbralian columns of opinion has been made traditionally from the Literature and Journalism point of view, and, besides the richment and originality of this pieces of writing, we notice that the attention paid to them has been too small. In this article we study, in the different levels of language, the most important characteristics of Umbral’s writing in his last period. Among them we underline the importance of the neologism, established on Spanish bases, that try to show expressivity and surprise; his long and complicated phrases; his connotative and subjective adjectives that show the author’s influence of the Barroc and Manierism poetry typical of Quevedo; the use of rhythm and rime that makes his writings seem authentic poetic prose…
