Moroccan relations with Latin America are a singular case of cooperation with a clear emphasis in culture, which has been shaped since the early 20th century under Spanish mediation. Since the Spanish Protectorate through the first years of its independence, the Maghrebi country built an interest in the Hispano-American sphere, encouraged mainly through the acknowledgment of the common cultural heritage of al-Andalus. Spanish Africanism and Arabism, as well as Andalusism and the literature of Arab immigrants in the Americas contributed to the development of a vision of an Arab-American articulation with an Iberian hub and Morocco as its main scene. This network can be considered as an example of articulation between colonial narrative and emancipatory discourse, as well as a conjunction between foreign efforts and cultural identities.
