Propaganda de imágenes al servicio de la Inquisición. El Auto de Fe de Pedro Berruguete en el contexto de su tiempo

Abstract

En el artículo se estudian las diferentes iconografías propias de la Inquisición entre ellas, el “Auto de Fe presidido por Santo Domingo de Guzmán” pintado por Pedro Berruguete, las cuales muestran una clara función político-religiosa. Estas manifestaciones artísticas fueron el resultado de la necesidad de una cierta propaganda, para legitimar el nuevo control religioso Los enfrentamientos entre los defensores y los enemigos del Tribunal provocaron la destrucción de muchos documentos y obras de arte, pero queda mucho y no se puede ignorar esta importante y singular parte de la historia del arte de España.

In the article the different iconographies of the Inquisition are studied, among them, the "Auto de Fe presided by Santo Domingo de Guzmán" painted by Pedro Berruguete, which show a clear political-religious function. These artistic manifestations were the result of the need for a certain propaganda, to legitimize the new religious control. The confrontations between the defenders and the enemies of the Court caused the destruction of many documents and works of art, but there is still a lot and this can´t be ignored important and unique part of the history of art in Spain.
