Jorge Ferreira de Vasconcelos, ¿escritor ibérico?

Abstract

Este texto plantea la obra dramática de Jorge Ferreira de Vasconcelos como posible manifestación de la existencia de un sistema cultural y literario ibérico, tanto en el siglo XVI como en los siglos posteriores. Para ello, se aplicarán las teorías que fundamentan los desarrollos actuales de los estudios ibéricos (la teoría de la interliterariedad de Ďurišin o la teoría de los polisistemas de Itamar Even-Zohar), y se analizará el repertorio en el cual se inscribe la obra dramática de Vasconcelos, así como el proceso de lectura y recepción de esta obra, tanto por sus contemporáneos como por la crítica posterior. Se intentará de esta forma decidir si, sin contradecir la clara posición de Vasconcelos en defensa de la nación y la lengua portuguesa frente a interferencias castellanas, se puede también afirmar que se trata de un “autor ibérico”.

This text studies Jorge Ferreira de Vasconcelos’s theatrical production as a possible manifestation of the existence of an Iberian literary system, in the 16th century and also in the centuries that followed. In order to achieve this objective, I will apply the theories based on the most recent and relevant productions in the field of Iberian Studies (Ďurišin’s theory of interliterariness or Itamar Even-Zohar’s polysystem theory). I will analyse the repertoire in which Vasconcelos’s plays are inscribed, and also the history of their reception, both by his contemporaries and by literary criticism of the following centuries. I will try to decide whether Jorge Ferreira de Vasconcelos can be classified as an “Iberian writer”, without contradicting his clear position defending the Portuguese nation and language against Castilian interference.
