Since the colonial architecture of Ibero-America join the History of Art, it is quite that has been written and there are also few optical approaches and their motivations. The intention of this paper is to depeen some aspects of this problem. The image of colonial architecture has suffered both the evolution of events (reforms or destruction of monuments), and fundamentally by "historians" who from different theoretical currents recover certain "objects", building a certain "order", a certain "history". Selecting, most of the time, is to classify works in "major architecture" and "minor architecture", in "classical architecture" (of supposedly superior values) and "non-classical architecture" ("heterodox") from the most different criteria and without "rules". It is continuously repeated that the history of colonial architecture is not written yet, but, paradoxically, we proceed as if the last word was already said.
