Evolución del retablo bajoextremeño

Abstract

En la evolución del retablo bajoextremeño fueron determinantes no sólo los elementos morfológicos que conformaron su estructura, sino también la iconografía, la labra de las tallas, la policromía y el dorado. Con el riesgo que supone generalizar y, sobre todo, dar fechas fijas proponemos las siguientes fases en la evolución del retablo bajoextremeño de los siglos XVI al XVIII: 1) El retablo de tradición gótica: hasta mediados del siglo XVI. 2) El retablo plateresco: circa 1540-1600. 3) El retablo clasicista: circa 1580-1666. 4) El retablo barroco: circa 1670-1750. 5) El retablo rococó: circa 1750-1780. En este artículo, se justificará en cada una de las fases establecidas la cronología asignada, se citarán los principales conjuntos retablísticos de cada período, y, sobre todo, se definirán los rasgos propios de cada fase.

In the evolution of altarpieces from Lower Extremadura, not only the morphological elements that shaped its structure were decisive, but also the iconography, the carving, the polychrome and the gold. With the risk of generalizing and, above all, giving fixed dates, we propose the following phases in the evolution of the altarpieces from the 16th to the 18th centuries: 1) The altarpiece of Gothic tradition: until the middle of the 16th century. 2) The Plateresque altarpiece: circa 1540-1600. 3) The Classicist altarpiece: circa 1580-1666. 4) The Baroque altarpiece: circa 1670-1750. 5) The Rococo altarpiece: circa 1750-1780. In this article, the assigned chronology will be justified in each of the established phases, the main altarpieces of each period will be cited, and, above all, the characteristics of each phase will be defined.
