Una forma de propiedad de la tierra en la Extremadura del Antiguo Régimen: las encomiendas de la Orden de Alcántara

Abstract

El estudio de las formas de tenencia y explotación de la tierra en Extremadura constituye, sin lugar a dudas, uno de los apartados que más luz arroja a la hora de afrontar su peculiar historia y las complejas relaciones sociales y de producción en ella existentes durante el Antiguo Régimen. En las líneas que siguen presentamos unas muy breves consideraciones sobre la estructura de la gran propiedad en los territorios que jurisdiccionalmente dependían de la Orden de Alcántara y de la principal de sus manifestaciones: la “encomienda”.

The study of the forms of land ownership and exploitation in Extremadura constitutes, without a doubt, one of the sections that sheds light when facing its peculiar history and the complex social and production relations that exist during the Ancient Regime. In the following lines we present some very brief considerations about the structure of the great property in the territories that jurisdictionally depended on the Order of Alcantara and the main one of its manifestations: the "commandery".
