Un proyecto de restauración del puente romano de Alconétar en el siglo XVIII

Abstract

Del puente romano de Alconétar, una de las obras relevantes en su género, hoy sólo conocemos una pequeña parte que reposa solitaria en el cauce seco del arroyo Guadancil, cerca de su primer emplazamiento sobre el río Tajo. Este resto simbólico puede evocar su función y traer a la memoria el interés que despertó a lo largo de la historia, cuando estuvo completo, porque fue paso fundamental y su esencia estratégica fue ambicionada por los distintos grupos en lucha, y cuando estuvo roto, porque la incomunicación que produjo su falta fue repetidamente sentida. Son varios los intentos conocidos por restablecer esta fábrica, caída para quedar inútil ya en el siglo XIV, y otros tantos debieron ser los que no se documentan. El documento que presentamos es una referencia más en el conjunto de proyectos sobre Alconétar, y como todos ellos, fallido. Data el plano del siglo XVIII, el informe que consta al pie está firmado por Joseph Garzia Galiano, y se trata de un proyecto hallado entre documentos del Ejército.

Of the Roman bridge of Alconétar, one of the most important works of its kind, today we only know a small part that stands alone in the dry channel of the Guadancil stream, near its first site on the Tagus River. This symbolic rest can evoke its function and recall the interest it aroused throughout history, when it was complete, because it was a fundamental step and its strategic essence was sought by the different groups in struggle, and when it was broken, because the incommunication that caused his lack was repeatedly felt. There are several known attempts to restore this bridge, fallen to be useless as early as the 14th century, and many others should be those that are not documented. The document we present is another reference in the set of projects on Alconétar, and like all of them, failed. The 18th-century plan is dated, the report that appears at the bottom is signed by Joseph Garzia Galiano, and it is a project found among Army documents.
