Formas y funciones de la prostitución hispánica en la Edad Moderna: el caso andaluz

Abstract

En este artículo se realiza un análisis de las formas que adoptó el ejercicio de la prostitución en la Andalucía Moderna. La primera parte se detiene en las circunstancias sociales y políticas que llevaron, desde el siglo XIV, a regular la prostitución en algunas ciudades andaluzas. A continuación se estudia el proceso histórico de constitución de las mancebías o burdeles municipales, sus normas y reglamentos, su funcionamiento interno y sus disfunciones. Por último, se complementa el estudio con una descripción de la prostitución clandestina, de sus formas y lugares, cerrando el artículo con la nueva inquietud respecto a la prostitución y la pobreza por parte del Despotismo Ilustrado español.

This article analyses the several forms of prostitution in the Modern Andalusia. The first paragraph discusses on the social and politic conditions that drove to the regulation of the prostitution at some andalusian cities from the beginning of the 15th century. The second part deals with the historical process of the inner constitution of brothels, its rules and laws, its daily running and malfunctions. Finally, this article describes the several ways of the illegal prostitution, its forms and favourite places, closing with the new concern on the topic from the Spanish Enlightenment.
