In Guadalajara, as in many other urbanized cities and towns of Castile, legally under royal jurisdiction, the main obstacle faced by their local elites, desiring to form socially closed and politically oligarchic groups, were the interference of the traditional nobility, which tried to link itself to the dynamic cities of the 16th century, taking advantage of, normally, the influence of their clientelist networks or certain jurisdictional rights obtained at the end of the Middle Ages.
