La imagen como escritura. El discurso visual para la Historia

Abstract

A pesar de la importancia que la reciente revolución tecnológica concede a la imagen, ésta se percibe aún en nuestra cultura como subsidiaria ante otras manifestaciones discursivas, como las desarrolladas con el texto. El status de la imagen ha variado a lo largo del tiempo y en todo momento su influencia ha sido determinante. La necesidad de "reescribir" un discurso propio es la que debe empujar al historiador a afrontar el dominio y la explotación de nuevas fuentes, en beneficio de su disciplina y del conjunto de la sociedad.

In spite of the importance that the recent technological revolution grants to it, image is still perceived in our culture as subsidiary before other discursive declarations, such as those constructed with the text. The status of image has changed throughout the time and at all times it’s been highly influential from a historical perspective. The need to "re-write" one’s an own discourse is the one that must push the historian to confront the domain and the development of new sources, for the sake of the discipline and of society in general.
