Abordaje histórico a las instituciones benéfico asistenciales de la ciudad de Badajoz

Abstract

Las instituciones benéfico-asistenciales en Badajoz atendían las necesidades de los vecinos pobres que habitaban la ciudad, acompañados por un número significativo de militares, que confirmaban su carácter castrense. Los orígenes de la Beneficencia en Badajoz nos acercan a la Edad Media, donde señalamos ya la existencia de tres hospitales, el de la Concepción, Piedad o Misericordia y el de la Cruz, realidad que permanece hasta que se agregan al Real Hospicio en 1795.

The charitable-welfare institutions in Badajoz attended to the needs of the poor neighbors who lived in the town, accompanied by a significant number of soldiers, who confirmed its military character. The origins of the Beneficence in Badajoz bring us closer to the Middle Ages, where we already pointed out the existence of three hospitals, the one of The Conception, Piety or Mercy and the one of The Cross, a reality that remains until they are added to the Royal Hospice in 1795.
