At the end of the 1823-1914 period, the United States emerged as a great continental power, laying the political, economic and ideological foundations of the subsequent hegemony in the Central American area. The United States intervened frequently in Latin America, especially in the Caribbean. As of 1930, still the USA will continue to exercise its role as master, wielding an apparent threat to national security, thus remaining the southern cone, under its sphere of influence.
