Análisis de la ambigüedad en una escena de "The merry wives of Windsor" y problemas que plantea su traducción

Abstract

Este análisis contrastivo de tres traducciones y el texto original ofrece una clara muestra de la importancia que el juego verbal desempeña en la obra de Shakespeare; retruécanos, ambigüedades o anfibologías que se nutren básicamente de referencias de naturaleza sexual. De este cotejo se desprende también que ninguna de las traducciones exhibe esa textura dilógica del original, que tantos y tan variados efectos cómicos deparan al texto isabelino.

This contrastive analysis of three well known Spanish translations of “The Merry Wives of Windsor” and the original text reveals the enormous difference which exists between the Elizabethan and the other texts in an aspect whose importance to the stylistic and thematic structure of this work is beyond question; namely the ambiguities and puns which pervade the text of the play. The analysis also reveals that the Spanish translations lack practically all the wordplay generated by those ambiguities and puns, and therefore the comic effects that they provoke in the Elizabethan text.
