La Fundación del Mayorazgo sobre las villas del condado de Medellín por Rodrigo Portocarrero y Beatriz Pacheco

Abstract

El castillo de Medellín, que a día de hoy conocemos por ser parte del Patrimonio Histórico Español, que ha visto entre sus muros poblamientos de árabes y cristianos, y se encuentra situado sobre un cerro cercano a la ribera izquierda del río Guadiana. En su día fue residencia del matrimonio formado por Rodrigo Portocarrero, primer Conde de Medellín por favor real de Su Majestad el Rey Juan II de Castilla desde 1456, y su esposa, Beatriz Pacheco, cuyo matrimonio tuvo lugar en 1453. El día 15 de mayo de 1460, el Rey Enrique IV firma en Valladolid una Real Provisión por la que concede a Rodrigo Portocarrero y Beatriz Pacheco, Condes de Medellín, facultad para instituir uno o más mayorazgos. Es por ello, que en esta investigación se presenta la historia de la fundación del Mayorazgo sobre las villas del Condado de Medellín, ofreciéndose una transcripción literal de las cláusulas de las que estaba compuesto dicho mayorazgo. Por último se presenta un estudio familiar de los condes de Medellín desde el siglo XV hasta la actualidad.

The castle of Medellin, which today we know for being a part of the Spanish Historical Heritage, which has seen between its walls many settlements of Arabs and Christians, is situated on a hill near the left bank of the Guadiana River. In the past, it was the residence of the marriage formed by Rodrigo Portocarrero, first Count of Medellin by the King Juan II of Castile from 1456, and his wife, Beatriz Pacheco, whose marriage took place in 1453. The 15th of May in 1460, the King Henry IV signed in Valladolid a Royal Provision by which it was granted to Rodrigo Portocarrero and Beatriz Pacheco, Counts of Medellin, the faculty to establish one or more mayorazgos. That is why in this research it is presented the history of the foundation of the Mayorazgo on the village of the County of Medellin, being offered a literal transcription of the clauses that compose the entailed estate. Finally it is presented a family study of the counts of Medellin since the fifteenth century until today.
