Tradición y originalidad en “Le Rommans de la Dame a la Lycorne et du Biau Chevalier”

Abstract

El romance anónimo de “La Dame a la Lycorne et du Biau Chevalier” es un largo poema de molde cortés característico de la mentalidad de la sociedad aristocrática de finales del medievo. Pretende recrear un ambiente histórico de la gloriosa época feudal fusionando motivos y temas literarios pertenecientes a materias épica, artúrica y lírica muy en boga aún en el siglo XIV. Se pueden apreciar además reminiscencias de acontecimientos y personajes de la realidad contemporánea. El resultado muy sobrecargado y al límite de la coherencia demuestra que estamos en un momento peculiar de la historia literaria, el límite extremo del ideal cortés representado por el amor inquebrantable de los dos protagonistas superlativos reseñados en el título y coronados al final del relato, un ideal desfasado con el que siguen soñando reyes y príncipes de finales de la Edad Media.

The anonymous romance “La Dame a la Lycorne et du Biau Chevalier” is a long poem, typical of the courtly mentality which characterized the aristocratic society of the later Middle Ages. It aims at recreating a historic atmosphere of the glorious feudal period by combining motifs and themes that belong to the epic as well as to the Arthurian and lyrical literary traditions which were very fashionable in the fourteenth century. Reminiscences of events and characters of contemporary reality can also be found. The exaggerated result, almost to the limit of coherence, shows that we are in a peculiar moment of literary history; it is the furthest limit of the courtly ideal represented by the steadfast love of the two superlative protagonists mentioned in the title and crowned at the end of the story, an outdated ideal which kings and princes in the later Middle Ages still dreamt of.
