Análisis del apoyo social en la adolescencia

Abstract

Está comúnmente aceptado que contar con apoyo social de distintos tipos y procedentes de distintas fuentes facilita el desarrollo humano, especialmente, durante las transiciones vitales. En esta línea, son numerosos los estudios que ponen en relación el apoyo social durante la adolescencia con algunas dimensiones como el ajuste y el rendimiento escolar, las conductas antisociales o el consumo de drogas. La comunicación que presentamos pretende trazar distintos perfiles de chicos y chicas adolescentes en función del apoyo social que perciben. Para ello, y en el marco de una investigación más amplia, seleccionamos una muestra al azar de 1274 adolescentes en Sevilla y su provincia administrando, entre otros instrumentos de evaluación, el Child and Adolescents Social Support Scale (CASSS; Malecki, Demarray y Elliot, 2000), Rosemberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE; Rosenberg, 1965) y Satisfaction Life Student Scale (SLSS; Huebner, 1991). Los análisis de datos muestran relaciones significativas entre el apoyo social y la edad de los participantes, el sexo, el hábitat y la titularidad del centro de estudios. La relación entre el apoyo social y las dimensiones de carácter personal (autoestima y satisfacción vital) serán analizadas y puestas en relación con el desarrollo y ajuste adolescente.

It is commonly accepted that having social support of different kinds and from different sources facilitates human development, especially during life transitions. Along these lines, there are numerous studies that relate social support during adolescence with some dimensions such as adjustment and school performance, antisocial behavior or drug consumption. The paper we present aims to draw different profiles of adolescent boys and girls according to the social support they perceive. To this end, and within the framework of a broader research, we selected a random sample of 1274 adolescents in Seville and its province, administering, among other assessment instruments, the Child and Adolescents Social Support Scale (CASSS; Malecki, Demarray, & Elliot, 2000), Rosemberg Self-Esteem Scale (CSR; Rosenberg, 1965) and Satisfaction Life Student Scale (SLSS; Huebner, 1991). The data analyses show significant relationships between social support and participants' age, sex, habitat, and ownership of the study center. The relationship between social support and personal dimensions (self-esteem and life satisfaction) will be analyzed and related to adolescent development and adjustment.
