Estudio bibliométrico de la literatura científica sobre actitud hacia la ciencia (1965-1995)

Abstract

Se presenta un estudio bibliométrico de la literatura científica existente sobre algunas variables relacionadas con «actitud hacia la ciencia»: sexo, personalidad, cambio de actitud, currículum y éxito así como sus instrumentos de medida. El período que abarca dicho estudio es entre 1965 y 1995. Usando la base de datos ERIC se encontraron unas 4.700 referencias de documentos sobre esta materia. Cerca del 50 % de las referencias encontradas corresponden a literatura gris y el otro 50 % se encuentra muy disperso y, por tanto, de difícil acceso. La producción científica presenta una evolución constante a partir de 1970, con una media de 120 documentos/año, dando una idea del interés de esta materia entre los investigadores. Se confirma la idea de que el sexo es la variable más importante relacionada con la actitud de los estudiantes hacia la ciencia, con una media de 37 documentos/año. Un alto número de documentos fueron encontrados respecto a la variable currículum ( 1.357) y un número bastante menor para la variable personalidad (203). La variable cambio de actitud presenta un comportamiento gaussiano con un máximo en el año 1975, mientras que la variable éxito sufre un fuerte solapamiento con otras variables. Finalmente en la variable medida de la actitud se observa un gran interés a partir de 1990.

A bibliometric study is presented of the existing scientific literature on some variables related to "attitudes towards science": gender, personality, attitude change, curriculum and success, as well as their measurement instruments. The study covers the period between 1965 and 1995. Using the ERIC database, about 4,700 references to documents on the subject were found. About 50% of the references found are grey literature and the other 50% are widely scattered and therefore difficult to access. The scientific production shows a constant evolution since 1970, with an average of 120 documents/year, which gives an idea of the interest in this topic among researchers. The idea that gender is the most important variable related to students' attitudes towards science is confirmed, with an average of 37 documents/year. A high number of documents was found for the variable curriculum (1,357) and a much lower number for the variable personality (203). The variable attitude change shows a Gaussian behaviour with a maximum in 1975, while the variable success suffers from a strong overlap with other variables. Finally, the variable measuring attitude shows a high level of interest from 1990 onwards.
