Acercamiento plástico a la historia del Perú contemporáneo: los funerales de Atahualpa (Cover)

Abstract

En 1867, más de trescientos después de la muerte del Inca Atahualpa, el pintor peruano Luís Montero finaliza en Italia su cuadro Los funerales de Atahualpa que, después de recorrer varias ciudades latinoamericanas donde se expuso, llega al Perú con gran éxito. Convertido en un ícono histórico no sólo por su calidad sino por su contenido, la obra representa el drama de la conquista del Perú después de la muerte de Atahualpa. A principios del siglo XXI el artista Marcel Velaochaga, con un planteamiento postmoderno, tomando como base este óleo hace una reinterpretación actualizada, es decir los personajes retratados forman parte de la historia del momento con un análisis crítico de la realidad nacional, de sus políticos, mártires y genocidas.

In 1867, over three hundred years after the death of the Inca Atahualpa, the Peruvian painter Luis Montero finished his painting: «The Funeral of the Inca Atahualpa», in Italy. After touring several Latin American cities where it was exhibited, arrives Peru with great success. It became a historical icon, not only for its quality but for its content. The work represents the drama of the conquest of Peru after the death of Atahualpa. In the early twenty-first century, painter Marcel Velaochaga with a postmodern approach, makes an updated reinterpretation based on this oil painting. The portrayed characters are part of the current history, with a critical analysis of the national situation, their politicians, martyrs and genocide.
