Nuevos aportes documentales sobre el palacio del Marqués de la Conquista en Trujillo (Cáceres): una obra inédita de los maestros Sancho de Cabrera Solís y Jerónimo González

Abstract

Las casas principales que don Hernando Pizarro y Vargas y su esposa y sobrina doña Francisca Pizarro Yupanqui, hija del conquistador del Imperio Inca Francisco Pizarro y de la princesa Inés Huaylas, mandaron construirse en la plaza del Arrabal de Trujillo circa 1560 han sido objeto de atención y estudio para numerosos investigadores los últimos treinta años. Poco, sin embargo, había podido concretarse hasta el momento acerca del momento exacto en que fue levantado el edificio o sobre los maestros de cantería que intervinieron en las obras. Tras varios años rastreando los fondos documentales locales y nacionales de la segunda mitad del ’500 con la esperanza de hallar nuevos datos con que sacar del anonimato este fastuoso edificio del Renacimiento trujillano y alto extremeño, traemos a estas páginas un extenso y rico documento hallado entre los fondos de la Real Chancillería de Granada, que nos habla del pleito librado a partir de 1560 entre la Ciudad de Trujillo y el citado Hernando por las obras y reformas efectuadas entonces en las Carnicerías de la ciudad y el referido edificio, a aquéllas anejo. En él se cita también, entre otros, a los maestros Sancho de Cabrera Solís y Jerónimo González como autores materiales de las obras.

The houses that Hernando de Pizarro y Vargas and his wife and niece Francisca Pizarro Yupanqui (daughter of the conqueror of the Incan Empire Francisco de Pizarro and Princess Inés Huaylas) commanded to build in square of the Arrabal in Trujillo circa 1560, have been the object of attention and study for a number of researchers in the last thirty years. However, up to now, very little had been certain about the exact dates of construction of the building or about the masters that took part in the works. After several years of research in the local and national archives of the 1500’s with the hope to find new information in order to shed light on this magnificent building of the Trujillo and hig-Extremaduran Renaissance, we bring an extensive and rich document found among the documentary holdings of the Real Chancillería in Granada, which deals with the lawsuit started after 1560 between the City of Trujillo and Hernando be¬cause of the reform works on the city’s butcher’s shops and the aforementioned building, which was next-door to the shops. In this document, masters Sancho de Cabrera Solís and Jerónimo González are mentioned, among others, as the actual authors of the works.
